Mobile Antennas!! (yum!)

Here are my currently installed antennas!  On the right is a Lakeview 40m hamstick.  I have a homebrew impedance matching coil on the bottom of it.   In the left-center rear (next to the telephone pole in the background) is a 5/8 wave vertical for 2m.  On the left roof rack is a homebrew copper water pipe squalo antenna for 2m sideband work!  It was a pain to make!  I'll do better next time though!

Here is a shot of the J-Pole 2m antenna that I made out of copper water pipe and had mounted on the truck for a while.  I used some angle iron on the trailer hitch (should have used square tubing) and some aluminum tubing to get it up to roof level.  The antenna did great!  I took it off for a few resons, firstly I am not really happy with the mount and secondly I wanted to install the squalo and didn't have a 2 way switch.  I'll probably put it back on for HamCom, cause you can never have too many antennas at HamCom!  <grinning>
Latest Antenna shots, much better than that junk above! lol.
Well here we go!  (today is 11/22/2005 but this photo is still a few months old)
finally I'm getting some updated photos in here.  I've replaced the crap jpole mount with matching mounts that my maint. man up here at work built for me, they bolt directly to my hitch assembly.  2m jpole on the passenger side and a Henry Allen Texas Bugcatcher on the left!  the Bugcatcher has a 5 foot mast, then the 4/80 coil then another 18" mast, the hat and I forget how much whip on top.  The 2m halo isn't currently on the truck, it was dammaged in a freak wind vs xyl accident! lol :)
Capacity hat closeup
Just a closeup of the cap hat and the coil.  I'm using the newer taps.  They're pretty good but I still pull my hair out once in a while!
Impedance match
Impedance match at the bottom of the Bugcatcher antenna, and a coaxial balun right behind the antenna mount.  I have a mixture of grounding strap on the bracket, from plumbing strapping to some braided shield.  I was trouble shooting and since it's not broke I haven't fixed it :)
